I first saw the phrase "Unleash Heaven" as the tagline at a small Anglican Church in Santa Rosa Beach — Apostles-by-the-Sea. That line stuck. It’s been about 10 years since I first saw it, and now, every year when I get to visit the beach, I love going to that church and am reminded of the phrase!

Father John told me the story behind the phrase. He was watching Gladiator. At one point in the movie, right before the opening battle against the Germanic tribes, Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe), delivers the iconic phrase, “At my signal, unleash hell.”  Father John said in that moment, he saw an opportunity to flip that script. The passage in Matthew 16:17-19 came to mind, “And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

I hope you’ll read the article and take the opportunity today to unleash heaven wherever we go!
