Hope for the Weary, the Burned Out, and the Broken
I’ve been writing and editing words for ten years now, and in that time I’ve made some good writing friends. One of my favourite things is to see those friends publish their books, and that is happening again today. Jeremy Writebol, the executive director of GCD, is publishing his book Pastor, Jesus Is Enough: Hope for the Weary, the Burned Out, and the Broken with Lexham Press. I’d love for you to grab a copy.
Annie Dillard says that when we give presents, we shouldn’t keep the price tag on the gift. It’s sort of tacky to remind people how much a gift costs. This is why she discourages writers from telling readers the very thing we so often want to tell them—the story of how much it costs to write.
But since Jeremy is the one with the present, let me say on his behalf that books cost authors. There’s the time to write the book and then to rewrite and rewrite (and rewrite!), but all that research and rewriting comes only after you have pitched proposals, seen them rejected, and eventually had one accepted. It’s so, so much work. Writing is a ministry of love, more than a career path or money-making scheme. And as I’ve watched Jeremy navigate this process with faith and humility, I’d love to encourage you to support him. Not to mention the more important fact that the finished book turned out fantastic.
You can get it at Amazon or lots of other places online!
Thanks,
Benjamin
