“Shut the door!!”
It’s a common refrain in my house. Sometimes it seems that half my job as a father is to tell my children to shut the door.
Our sunroom attaches to our living room, but we keep the door shut when trying to heat the house in the winter. Stepping into the sunroom on an arctic winter day feels like stepping into a walk-in freezer. Our wood-burning stove keeps our house at a nice, comfortable temperature, but when the sunroom door is left open it’s like someone switched on the A/C. Many of our school supplies are kept in the sunroom so my children venture in there often and sometimes forget to shut the door behind them. When they do, the cold chill of air on my skin mixed with the thought of all the money we are wasting irks this weary father.
“How many times do I have to remind you to keep the door shut,” I plea with exasperation.
My children often need a thousand reminders of basic things I’ve told them over and over. Yet, while my patience with them often grows thin, the truth is I often need basic truths on repeat in my life as well. Thankfully, my heavenly Father never grows weary in reminding me.
Last week’s articles provide some basic reminders that we know so well but all-too-often forget. Be encouraged as you read these truths presented so beautifully and let them stir your heart to worship and joy.
While you are read one of last week’s articles below, I’m going to go shut the sunroom door again.

Add Another Piece to Your Collection
by Brianna Lambert
“While the limits within our creative work might lead us to despair, we need not let it. This year we can choose to see the gift God gives us in allowing another year of labor to add to our collection.”
When You Feel Inadequate
by Grace Thomas
“Perhaps you feel like the little boy with five loaves and two fish. Maybe you’re wondering how your meager offering makes a difference for everyone else. Or maybe you’re feeling like Andrew, a disciple of Jesus, who had seen God’s miracles but still wondered if he could provide for so many with so little.”
What Baptism Reveals About God’s Heart And Our Identity
by Kevin P. Emmert
“Our share in Christ’s sonship means many things—and chief among them is that we are loved by the Father as the Son is loved by the Father (John 17:23). Because we are sons in the Son, we have his Father as our Father, and his Father cannot but shower us with his paternal indulgence.”
