Dear Reader,
At the conclusion of 2021 we wanted to share with you our most-read articles from this last year. Written by both staff writers and general submissions, these articles reveal a longing and hope in Christ despite the difficult realities that faced so many of us this last year. If you have not had an opportunity to spend with these, let me encourage you to add them to your list today.
We hope that you have been well served by GCD in 2021 and will look forward to continuing to press on in our mission to “cultivate writers and resources that make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus.” Thank you for reading and writing.
#11. “Where Doctrine Meets the Desolate” by Lara d’Entremont
When our tears can’t flow anymore, and our throats are sore from crying, God is still there. Unchanged. His love is still abounding and his grace still encompassing.
#10. “When Christmas Uncovers Difficult Memories” by Lara d’Entremont
When Christmas time reminds you of what you’ve lost, try to treasure in your heart the story of our Savior.
#9. “A Spectacle unto Angels” by Zach Barnhart
Are the saints in heaven too preoccupied with their Eternal Country that they’ve forgotten about you and I? What the Bible seems to indicate might surprise you.
#8. “She Is Broken, and She Is Beautiful” by Glenna Marshall
When a member of our church died, I saw the beauty of the church in action.
#7. “Pray Whenever and Wherever but also on Your Knees” by Zach Barnhart
While it is simple to come before our Lord, it is not always meant to be easy. There is a reason we call prayer a spiritual discipline.
#6. “The Gold Mine in the Local Church” by Chrys Jones
Don’t exhaust yourself digging all over the place for biblical wisdom if you haven’t bent down to pick up the gold God placed in your local church.
#5. “Old Paths for a New Year” by Jeremy Writebol
I’ve discovered I don’t need to reinvent the wheel every year when it comes to the spiritual habits of Bible reading and prayer.
#4. “Assurance of Things Hoped For: Christians Will Meet Again in Heaven” by Wendy Willard
I hadn’t expected our trip to Maine to leave such an impression upon me. But it did. I won’t ever forget what my elderly aunt said to her elderly brother.
#3. “Embracing the Quiet Life” by Chris Thomas
We shouldn’t be surprised when we find it difficult to hear God’s voice. Our lives are often too loud.
#2. “Learning How to Stare” by Desiré Miller
Wheelchairs, feeding tubes, and drooling catch our attention. And they should.
#1. “Perfect Courtesy Toward All in the Worst of Times” by Tim Shorey
True discipleship might not only be counter-cultural to the culture of the world but also to Christian subculture.
Thank you again for reading GCD this last year. We are excited about the opportunities and plans that we have for publication and equipping in the year to come, including this newsletter which will be published weekly.
We’d love to hear from you as well, so please send us a note with thoughts on articles you’d like to read and comments you have on prior articles.
May you be a disciple of Jesus that matures and even multiplies other disciples of Jesus in 2022.
